It seems that there is no stopping Pankaj Advani – The Asian and Indian billiards champion won the Australian Open title last weekend to notch up yet another title.
Advani displayed his cue skills as he defeated Drew Sitwala in the final 6-1 to clinch the tournament. In a previous match, Advani had out-played Matthew Bolton 5-4 and performed two century breaks during the match.
After the competition, The 22 yr old champ spoke about the tournament,
‘It was a good championship. The conditions were very player friendly. Winning on debut is definetely special, there were quite a few good players – they had an edge over the indians because they have played the same time format tournament which we could not participate in.’
Advani had previously beaten Sitwala in the world championship final last year and believed that the win could have given him the edge to defeat his opponent mentally.
‘Yes, having beaten Drew before did help a little psychologically, but that played a very small part. At the end of the day what matters is how well you play on that particular day.’
Advani is on a roll at the moment – he now heads to participate in the world professional billiards championship next month.
